About Dr. Sones

Dr. Sones is a full-service, outpatient psychiatrist and psychotherapist serving patients and their families in West Los Angeles and throughout California. He provides psychotherapy and medication management in a holistic and patient-focused approach that is based on the most recent data and evidence. Dr. Sones treats a wide variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, personality disorders, addiction, and sleep problems.

Dr. Sones completed his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated with honors. He received his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and received the distinction of being elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. After receiving his MD, he completed psychiatry residency at the Semel Institute at UCLA and elected to complete a year of training at Harbor-UCLA to expand his breadth of knowledge. He served in numerous leadership roles throughout training and has been nationally recognized with awards for clinical excellence and academic distinction on several occasions. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is double board-certified in Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry.

He also cares deeply about the interaction between mental health, insecure housing, and poverty. In addition to maintaining a private practice, he works as a “street psychiatrist” on a homeless outreach team through the Ocean Park Community Center and the Los Angeles Office of Diversion and Reentry. He has published numerous research articles and presented his work at research conferences many times, focusing on homelessness in addition to lifestyle changes to improve mental health, non-medication interventions for psychiatric disorders, and forensic psychiatry.

The mental health landscape can be incredibly challenging to navigate, especially if you are feeling unwell. Dr. Sones provides a new approach, where you can be confident that you are being listened to, heard, and understood. Please let us know if you are interested in a consultation.

My approach

I believe that expert clinical psychiatric care can be provided with warmth and empathy. I view it as my responsibility to deliver the best care possible with collaboration, personalization, and compassion. In my view, the role of a psychiatrist extends far beyond prescribing medications. I offer a holistic and integrative approach, working with you as a part of your team to target overall health and wellbeing with lifestyle interventions, psychotherapy, as well as the most up-to-date medication recommendations.

I specialize in the treatment of patients with severe mental health problems, but my patients come from a wide variety of backgrounds and mental health histories. I offer concierge services, prompt scheduling, in-home consultations, and I am available between visits for phone calls and emails.
